This building is a self-supporting structure with 2,740 tons of structural steel, which included over 50,000 bolts and 8,000 pounds of welding rod and wire. The primary feature of the structure is the 194-foot prow extending over 167 feet of 13th Avenue, 100 feet above the ground. LPR utilized 50 customized shoring towers inside and outside the structure to support the weight of the structure until the decking was completed. It was necessary to precisely map how the building’s steel planes would be erected. Eighteen months of preconstruction planning and working with 3-D modeling software achieved the effort of deciphering the sequencing of construction. LPR also engineered custom rigging for pre-assembled modules built on the ground.
